BROADWAY With its honey coloured Cotswold stone houses Broadway is one of the most beautiful villages in Britain. Nearby Broadway Tower dominates the skyline. The folly was built in the 18^th century by the sixth Earl of Coventry and offers spectacular views from the top of its tower.

Broadway is an excellent centre from which to tour the Cotswolds. Also within easy reach are Stratford, Cheltenham, Worcester, Warwick, Oxford and Birmingham. The British Rail Cotswold Line means that Broadway is just a 2 hour journey from Paddington Station, London.

From about 1600 Broadway was an important staging post when a typical journey from London to Worcester took 17 hours with stops and change of horse and at one time Broadway had 33 public houses. With the coming of the railway the village passed through a more peaceful time and became a meeting place for Victorian artists and writers and the pre-Raphaelite painting school had its origins here.

The architecture of the village reflects its varied history with some grand Georgian buildings and others of humbler origin. Abbots Grange dates from the 14^th C and is believed to be one of the oldest domestic buildings in the country. Tudor House dates from 1660 and parts of the Lygon Arms Hotel from the mid 16thC.The Broadway Hotel is an example of half-timber and Cotswold stone building. St. Eadburgha’s Church has been a place of worship for almost 1000 years.
