Moreton in Marsh, in the North of the Cotswolds derives its name from 'Farmstead on the Moor' and it gained its affix from a corruption of March, meaning boundary. The old Four Shire Stone near by used to mark the boundary of four different counties, although now it is only three. The stone itself can be found on the A44 about half a mile east of the town.

The oldest part of the town is settled around the Church, but transport has determined the growth of Moreton more than anything. Straddling the Fosse Way, the through traffic has been the source of trade and commerce for centuries. The Wide main street and Market square are still much in use and the town has kept much of its character amid the changes of the last century.

Like many cotswold towns it has its share of antique shops and galleries, but is also still very much a working town and central to the lives of the rural community around.

Batsford Arboretum & Falconry Center lies about 1 mile north west on the A44, this is a site of about 50 acres of country walks, picnic areas and Falconry displays.
